It's not that they're unthinking or shallow (though they can be, just like the rest of us!), but just that certain kinds of abstraction don't hit them where they live.

Some of us thrive on it, of course, and drive them nuts.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13633407562888054314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1311324608995641088.post-62029275008579965832009-08-31T14:20:32.486-04:002009-08-31T14:20:32.486-04:00This has made me think about the rural culture my ...This has made me think about the rural culture my mom grew up in, and which she went back to in her later years. I have a hard time imagining women in that area being quite so contrary. Actually, at my mom's funeral the preacher and a number of women from the church mentioned how many questions she asked. I think my mom drove them a bit nuts, when they would have liked to just rest in the familiar Sunday school tropes. Rural isn't quite the same as working class, though.Bad Alicehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04540577363786819292noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1311324608995641088.post-56118019364113256752009-08-27T11:21:01.209-04:002009-08-27T11:21:01.209-04:00Thank you, terri, and welcome.Thank you, terri, and welcome.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13633407562888054314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1311324608995641088.post-67930428630957358742009-08-27T11:12:02.775-04:002009-08-27T11:12:02.775-04:00Peeked in on your blog from Exploring Our Matrix.....Peeked in on your blog from Exploring Our Matrix....and I was pleasantly surprised to read this post. Though there were some mildly redemptive elements, it was mostly a disaster.

I listen better now.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13633407562888054314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1311324608995641088.post-28547946194549154972009-08-23T10:15:33.191-04:002009-08-23T10:15:33.191-04:00It makes perfect sense that these adorable women w...It makes perfect sense that these adorable women would identify with the 10 rational spies. Women (or spouses who are not the primary breadwinners) often follow their husbands' dreams in spite of the ridiculous ideology of their husbands. Even if they were to point out the hazards of moving to this place or taking that job or going to that church, husbands usually overrule these well-thought-out arguments. They are, after all, the bread winners and power brokers of the marriage. Eventually, women learn to can pickles and ridicule their husbands to their pickling companions.

I'm not surprised that they quit listening to their teacher's lesson. They've heard it all before. Pickling, however, has some interesting variants.India Hensonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00004422953024554988noreply@blogger.com
